Happy New Year, Part 4

Ah!  The last new year card.

Remember the black and white paper used in the paper quilting card in the last posting?  Well, I cut a block of paper from one sheet and added red 'jewels' to give the card some bling.  Very basic and easy to make, but I like it.  It looks complicated....

Hope you new year is off to a great start,
Kathy

Happy New Year, Part 3 Paper Quilting

When I look at my picture file, I realized I made quite a few New Year's cards.  So I  will post a couple today and then have one more for you.

I love paper quilting cards.  In my younger and more patient days, I made quilts (sewn by hand and machine), but nowadays I prefer making paper quilt cards!

The most time consuming part of making paper quilt cards is coordinating colors for the quilt and then making sure you have a basic card to match.  I made a lovely --  really it was beautiful -- birthday card with peach, blue and cream colored papers.  But...realized after the quilt part was completed, that I did not have a card stock to match those papers.   Initially I did not want a wide border as in the card shown below, but that is what I decided I needed to do to finish the card.  In the end, the card turned out to be very nice, but I went through some frustration before the end.

So -- preparation is key for this card and probably for any card you make.  Get all your materials together before starting the project.

The black and white papers used in this card are from a set that I found at AC Moore last year. Certainly made selection easy!

Take care,
Kathy

Happy New Year, Part 2

Another Happy New Year card.   Cards for the new year are so enjoyable to make as they are always bright, happy and full of happiness and hope.

I love this stamp from Stampin Up.  It is their Christmas star, but I think it is perfect for this card.

The star is stamped in a grey/silver ink (Studio G, I think).  Then I stamped a splatter stamp with VersaMark and added gold embossing.    It is really much more impressive in person!

Take care,
Kathy

Happy New Year Cards, part 3

Stars and Happy New Year just go together so when I found a scrap of designer paper with stars, I thought it would be perfect for new year cards.

Same layout with different colored card stock.  The same, but different.

What do you think?

Happy New Year, part 2

2013 will be starting off for me with Happy New Year cards and and a contest entry.  One of my goals for the new year is to enter at least one contest a month.

Have you tried quilting?   It is similar to iris folding and a lot of fun.  The first card I made took forever cause I spent quite a bit of time looking for matching paper in my stash and I wasn't really happy with the finished card.  Then I remembered that I had picked up a small set of black and white paper at Michael's a few months ago.   So easy --  just pulled out the matching papers and cut the strips.   Lesson learned -- plan ahead.   ;')

I love this card and think I will make my Valentine and Easter cards using iris folding and quilting techniques.    The 3"x3" quilted square has a black frame on a plain white card.  For a little sparkle, I added red sequins in the center and along the white sentiment tag.  The blacks are not as bright in this picture as they are on my computer.  ???

The inside message was printed on white card stock.

I'll be entering this card in the JUGS 169 Wild Card Challenge:
and  Allsorts Challenge Blog:

Happy New Year Cards

Well, Christmas is past and 2013 is here!  Though I did get Christmas cards mailed, I did not send happy greetings to everyone on my list.  Just ran out of time.  So I thought I would send Happy New Year cards.

Here are a couple pictures of two I sent out.

One of my Christmas presents was a Mini Cricut machine.  I had fun cutting out these stars.  The little tiny stars are from a Martha Stewart punch.   I don't have a Happy New Year stamp so I printed the tags with my computer.

The balloon on this card is also computer printed -- found the balloon on a free printable site.

Happy New Year to everyone.
