Let It Snow

Let it snow!!

Here is a snowflake card which was kind of fun to make.  I wanted to get a snowflake in metallic white using the Tim Holtz die.  The white metallic paper was too thick to cut the intricate spaces, but the outside edges cut fine.  So I carefully removed the snowflake from the die.  You can see the cuts the die made into the metallic paper leaving a sort of an embossed look.

The basic card is black with a buffalo plaid cover.  The snowflakes (3) were attached to an embossed white piece and then placed on a black frame.

Hope you can see the details of the snowflake.

I'll be posting this card to the following challenges:

Merry Christmas

The weather outside is rainy and icy or so I have been told.  I haven't gone out and won't till the temperature rises a bit.   So, since I cannot run my errands, I'll make cards!  Love it!

Here is my 'merry' card for the Time Out Challenge  #150 - Merry & Cheerful.  I love Christmas plaids and snowflakes (paper snowflakes, that is).  The base card is a pretty green and the plaid paper is framed in white.

The snowflake is the Tim Holtz die which I straight cut the edges to fit the sides of the card.  I've had the Merry Christmas die for sometime and don't remember the supplier.  I cut a white and a red sentiment and placed the red atop the white for a white, snowy shadow effect.  The card looks a little busy, but I like it!

Ugly Sweater

The ugly sweater?  Well, I kind of like Christmas and holiday sweaters and don't find them ugly at all.  I don't think I am the only one as the stores will be full of holiday sweaters soon!

So, here is a holiday card that would be great for a man or teenage boy (they can be most difficult to create for).

The card was made with a red basic card and solid green background.  The red and green plaid sweater is from a die set (Elizabeth Craft Designs).  Love that little reindeer.  The sentiment, Happy Holidays, is from an old Stampin Up set and stamped in white embossing powder.

Anything Goes with Simon Says Stamp Challenge

Lately I have been noticing Halloween cards on Pinterest so I thought I better get started on a couple.  Halloween will be here before I know it and I want at least a few cards!

This card is similar to one I saw on Pinterest (with which I am still having issues - grrrr).  My ribbon stash includes a roll of ribbon that looks like a spider web though I think it is meant to be black lace.  It is perfect for Halloween.

For an added touch, I inked the edges of the main card and the center background card with my gold ink pen.  Look at the bottom right corner.  Don't you just love it.    I think it really adds a lot and finishes the card nicely.

Thanks a Latte

Thanks a Latte!  Nice play on words.  I was playing -- playing is the right word cause I am just starting to use watercolor -- around with watercolors and I thought these colors would be pretty for a bookmark.  So I die cut the watercolor paper with my Cutplorations dies (love the wobbly stitching look), added the coffee cup and then the sentiment.  The raffia ribbons adds a little more color.

The bookmark is attached with a cute paper clip to a piece of card stock.  I guess this would be called a 'flat card' since it is only one piece and not a folded card.    A note could be written on the back of the yellow card stock.

This will be my last post to the 2017 Summer Coffee Lovers Blog.

Okay - have a great 4th of July weekend.  We are expecting really high outdoor temps.

Take care,
Kathy

2017 Summer Coffee Lovers Blog Challenge

Not only is summer here, but the 2017 Summer Coffee Lovers Blog Challenge is too!  What a great challenge to look forward to each season.  Love it.

In anticipation, I made a couple cards last week.  Judging by the number of cards that have been  uploaded already, I'm guessing lots and lots of others make cards ahead as well.

I will have a couple more cards in a few days.  Today I went to a Stamp and Scrapbook Expo.  OMG!!!  It's like being in a candy shop --  hundreds, no thousands of stamps, dies, papers, and ideas.  I planned to look around for just a couple hours and not spend as much money as last year.  Yea, well, nice thought, but it didn't happen.  Nearly three hours and lots and lots of money spent later, I left the expo.  More on this later.

Here is my first card for the 2017 Summer Coffee Lovers Blog Challenge -

Happy Friday!

Happy Birthday

Another Tuesday Morning Sketches Challenge.  I love the colors of this card -- so calm and soothing.

Pretty flowers stamped in black and colored with Copic pens with a little ribbon and bow.  I found the cute little yellow flower in my flower box so I added it with a few pearls.

Starry Night

Hi everyone -
Thankfully, the snow is gone -- three feet.  Well, we did not receive three feet, only 32 inches!  We stuck a yard stick in the snow on our deck.  At first we enjoyed seeing the yard stick disappear ... then, not so much.

The first few days after the blizzard, the snow was absolutely beautiful.  So pristine white and pretty.  Then, of course, the roads cleared and the sand and dirt turned the lovely white snow to piles of ugly brown yuck!

So, I guess I still have snow on my mind and came up with this card.  A picture of silver trees in a frame with a little paperclip at the top.  Confetti stars for a starry night.

Card materials:
Martha Stewart All Over the Page Stars
Stampin Up "Lovely as a Tree" stamp
We R Memory Keepers Albums Made Easy
Ink It Up! Silver ink

I'll be posting this card to two challenges:

Tic-Tac-Toe Challenge #3   I chose the middle row: polaroid, paperclip and confetti.  An interesting challenge - really makes one think outside the box.

Happy New Year!

Happy New Year!

Thought I would begin the new year with an almost white on white card.  The lovely Tim Holtz reindeer is backed by a beautiful embossed white card.  The bottom mat is a pattern of 'MERRY CHRISTMAS' in white on red.  The finishing touches are a little silver ribbon bow and some bling!

This will be my first Christmas card for 2016 and I think I am off to a great start.

I'll be posting this card to:

Warmest Wishes & Christmas Cheer

Isn't this a nice sentiment?  warmest wishes & Christmas cheer - love it.  And such perfect thoughts to put on a tag for a holiday wine gift!

The red plaid card stock is from my box of scraps.  This tag measures about 2 1/2" x 7" so not much paper or card stock was needed.   After cutting the tag, I ran the card stock through my Big Shot using a scalloped circle to make the hole for the wine bottle.  Then I added a pretty green ribbon and bow to the sentiment tag.  We always spend Christmas at a family member's house so this tag will go on a lovely bottle of wine for the hostess.

The sentiment is from Taylored Expressions "Big Bold Christmas" stamp set.

This cheery tag will be posted to Taylored Expressions Share Joy Challenge and Christmas Card Challenges Anything Goes

The last week of the month is usually kind of slow for me and I have no appointments or meetings this week -- plenty of time to spend in my cave.  Have a great week!

Christmas Thank You

Guess I should make a new year's resolution to blog and post more cards in 2015.  I could, but don't know if I would be successful.  Sometimes life just gets in the way.

But not today!!  I needed a thank you card to send to someone who is really special and that was my goal for the day.  But as I was looking at my emails this morning I saw I could make my thank you card which could also be a card for the Cas-ual Fridays Challenge, Paper Smooches SPARKS Challenge and the Christmas Card Challenge.  Wow!  Four goals accomplished with one card.  Eureka!!

NOTE:  This a new picture that I loaded a day later.  Better light = better picture!

This is the original picture.  Sad, I know.

Wish my camera took better pictures of red- sorry about that.  The base of the card is a kraft card.  Kraft paper always looks so good with red, white and green.  Love it.

The layout of the card follows the sketch for the Paper Smooches SPARKS Challenge. The Cas-ual Fridays challenge required felt and sequins.   So I cut the felt poinsettia with the die set from Paper Smooches and the sentiment is from Paper Smooches as well.

I hope my friend likes this card.  It was fun to make.

Ok, that's for the start of 2015.  Happy New Year!!!

Card Swap

OMG!  Here it is October 30th already.  I have not posted since the first week of October. Back in September I mentioned I had become involved in the local Woman's Club -- had no idea how much of my time this would take.  No regrets -- just running out of time for all the other things I want to do.  Again, I think the major time crunchers are over -- let's hope, cause I really miss making cards!  Have no idea how regular bloggers handle time scheduling -- how do you do it?!

Recently one of the discussion groups on Etsy has had an 'unfinished card' swap in which I am participating.  This is our third round -- a lot of fun.  In this round, each member sent 3-4 elements of a card to three other members and we were to make a card using the elements.  Yesterday I finally sat down to work on these cards -- I've had the elements for four weeks....

So, here is my first card.  The elements sent to me were the embossed silver paper, large and small snowflake and the silver and white rope.  I love silver, red and white together -- so traditional and beautiful for Christmas.  I added the small flower in the center of the snowflake for a dab of green.

Originally, I wanted a regular bow, but I'm not very good with bows and the thickness of the rope was awkward for me.  So I opted for this simple tie and I think it goes better with the design of the snowflake.

I'm glad to receive these elements so I could make a Christmas card and post it on Christmas Card Challenges - Anything Goes

Merry Christmas Wine Bottle Tag

Today is September 30.  I just cannot believe how fast this month has gone by.  When August and summer ended, I thought I would have sooo much time to make cards, crochet and read.  Boy, was I wrong.  I've become very involved in the local woman's club and that is where all my time has gone this past month.  I'm not sure October will be any better so I'm looking forward to November, I think.

But I did have some time yesterday to make this wine bottle tag and I'm sure I will use on a  Christmas present!

There are some terrific cards this week - amazing talent.

Take care,
Kathy

Warm Wishes

Summer is flying by - I know where the time has gone, but yet....  I haven't posted anything in close to ten days so today I worked on two cards.  Here is the first.

Warm Wishes for two Christmas challenges.  When making this card, i recalled a card I had seen on Pinterest that had contrasting patterns and layers.  I don't usually use two different patterns ( plaid and stripes), but I see various combinations all the time and tried it.  I kind of like it.  The button was a last minute addition.  The tag and white bow just looked so plain that I thought a little pop of color would help and it goes with the folksy plaid.

I used Copic pens to color the ivy and berries.  These pens are great and I need to uses them more.

The first challenge is Festive Friday

Ho Ho Ho!

Christmas in July!  yay!!

Here's the card I made for  Christmas Card Challenges #31 -- Anything Goes

A cute rolly Santa with polka dots and snowflakes all around him.

Though I'm working on snowy Christmas cards, I am off to the beach for a long 4th of July weekend!   Love it.  Can't wait to get there even though a tropical storm is headed up the east coast.

Take care,
Kathy

Pastel Christmas

The current Festive Friday challenge was truly a challenge.  Look at this inspirational tree --

My Christmas trees are the usual red, green and white with a little blue and gold, but no pastels.

So, since I love hexagons and sparkles, I thought I would use hexagon glitter paper.  The yellow and pink yarn balls are not Christmassy, I know.  Maybe I should pull out some Christmas decorations to add to my pictures.

Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas

The Holly Jolly Christmas Challenge requires a winter bird.  I had a card all planned and quickly found that I do not have the little bird I wanted to stamp on the card.  Drat....  But while looking, I came across this duck.  What a face!  Isn't he cute?  With a little color he quickly became a Christmas Duck!

So I made this Christmas Duck card to go with Seize the Sketch Challenge, too.  Two challenges with one card --  get it?  ha ha.  quack me up....  I'll stop now.

Two Christmas Card Challenges

A Christmas card for two challenges:  Festive Friday and Christmas Card Challenges

I love this red and gold ribbon.  When I saw the ribbons on the tree in the Festive Friday Challenge picture, I looked at my ribbons and selected this one immediately.  Some green leaves, gold string, embossed white card, designer paper and stamped sentiment add different textures and layers to the card.

Christmas Card Challenges #26 Anything Goes

I'm also posting this card to Christmas Card Challenges.  This is my first card in this challenge.  The theme was Anything Goes so....

Happy Memorial Day.
