Another card for the 2016 Winter Coffee Lovers Blog Hop

A few days ago I posted a card for the  2016 Winter Coffee Lovers Blog Hop.  Well, here is another which is the same basic design, but different coffee stamp and colors.

Vellum Christmas Trees

As part of an unfinished card swap I was sent a piece of vellum with bright green trees and a decorated tag and ribbon.  I have not used vellum paper before so I browsed Pinterest looking for ideas.

I like the idea of vellum and will look into how to use it.  The vellum piece is adhered to the basic green card with double-sided clear tape.  There must be a better way as the tape shows through the vellum.  To cover the edges of the vellum and green card stock, I place a strip of green shiny Washi tape.

An easy and simple card and I like it!

Happy Tuesday!

2016 Winter Coffee Lovers Blog Hop

Love this blog hop!  It is always a challenge to come up with a coffee related card though one would think it would be easy.  I think and think and think of ideas and different ways of using plain paper, printed paper, stamps and dies.

Well, this time I decided I would do a flat card instead of the usual folded card.  I added a pretty snow flake on red background piece to a white base.  I stamped two coffee cups on another piece of pretty card stock and fuzzy cut the cups.  The bottom of the cup piece is glued to the white but the edges are loose so the gift card can be placed behind the cups.  The red and white twine adds a bit of color and holds the gift card in place (two birds...).

The green gift card adds even more color to the card.  I tried one of my coffee shop gift cards, but it was white and the card looked really dull and boring.

Christmas Tree Card Set

This morning I was inspired by the Make It Monday #267: Assembly Line Card-making at Papertrey Ink.  The challenge is to make an assembly line card.  I needed this to get me going on Christmas cards.

So I gathered my ideas and came up with this Christmas note card set.

After cutting the three different papers, I die cut the tree on the green paper.  Then I ran the red and green papers through my Big Shot and a snow flake embossing folder to add some depth to the papers.  Next I glued the green on the stripe, the stripe on the red and the red on a white note card.  It looked a tad plain so I added the little star to the top of the tree.

Inside I stamped the darling message from Papertrey Ink's 'Tucked in: Holdiay' set.

Tomorrow I'll make more for myself and for a fundraiser for my woman's club craft fair table.  Yay!

Take care,
Kathy

Breast Cancer Awareness Month

October is always a special month for me.  Besides being my birth month and seven other family members and friends, it is Breast Cancer Awareness Month.  Too many of my friends have gone through this battle.  When my sister suffered as well, October became even more special.

Many, many years ago,  eight of us women formed a bridge group playing once a month.  Of those eight, three have had breast cancer.  Statistics state that one in eight women will get breast cancer.  We have three in eight. What are the odds!!!!  We have talked about this quite a bit and wondered if our environment, job location, water or what was the reason.   Probably we will never know.

So, for those women, my sister and all others, here is my latest card.

Fall Coffee Lovers Blog Hop

My mornings are full of coffee and word games  - can't do one without the other!

Here is my card for the 2016 Fall Coffee Lovers Blog Hop --   Fall colors and coffee!  I punched three circles and taped them together.  Then stamped the Tim Holtz coffee cup (such a cute set of stamps) in the center of the three.  Added a few shiny leaves and cute ribbon.

Have a great weekend!

Have a Fabulous Birthday!

Where has September gone?  Despite my good intentions and organized list, I have missed a couple birthdays.  Drat!  I'll post my favorite belated card soon, but in the meantime, here is a card that I made for a few challenges.

This card was fun to make and a little challenging.  I'm posting it to four challenges and each has a unique feature.

The first is AAA Cards Game #74 Masking -- I masked the colored circles .  I don't use masking often so I'm glad this turned out okay.

Second is Penny Black and More  - Add a Sentiment.  The stamp and balloons are from the "Sweet Wishes" set.

Third is Can You Case It?  #39 - lovely colors to use as inspiration (see pic below)

And the fourth is The Card Concept #58 Sweet and Sour -- more lovely colors and shapes for my inspiration.  These colors are summer to me and I'm sad to see them go.

The last couple weeks have been a bit hectic so I hope to spend more days just relaxing in my cave.  love it!

Take care,
Kathy

Merry Christmas PaperTrey Ink Make It Monday #260

Last year at this time, I had several Christmas cards made.  Not so this year.  I have a lot to do in the next few weeks.  Here is my start.

A Christmas card for the Make it Monday #260 - From Black and White to Color.  An interesting technique.  I stamped the sentiment in red on a white card.  Red ink and I do not get along so I stamped the sentiment first just in case I messed up the red ink and needed to do another.  Then I stamped the happy greeting on the inside.  There you will see a little red blotch.  Oh well.

Then I stamped the images in black on the remaining area of the white piece.  The next step was to cut a small piece of the images off the card and set it aside - not coloring it but leaving the images in black and white.  Using my Copics I colored the green leaves and red berries on the larger piece.   Both pieces were then adhered to the green striped background card.  Red and white baker's twine adedd the final touch.

I love these Christmas colors.  My mind is already racing with ideas for more cards.

Sending Love and Sympathy

This past month has been extremely hectic!  But I think we are back to our normal pace.  The days of summer have flown by and the extreme heat has arrived.  My car thermometer reached 100 degrees this afternoon!

Sadly, a friend's husband passed away today so I made a special card for her.  The cards in my stash just did not seem right.

Sorry about the poor picture.  This really is a pretty card:  the base card is a lovely green and the dark card is blackberry bliss (I think).  I love green and purple together.  I off stamped the dots and leaves to get a slightly lighter color and punched the butterflies out of small pieces of scrap paper and added a couple rhinestones.  I tried different colored twine, but this purple seemed to fit the best.

Hope your weekend is wonderful and cool!

Book Lover

Being a retired high school librarian,  many of my friends are librarians so I need a few 'bookish' birthday cards.  I love the simplicity of this card and so will my friends.

The stack of books stamp is In Other Words - read by Taylored Expressions.  I haven't used this stamp set before, but I think I will quite a bit in the future.  The sentiments are from two other stamp sets and, I'm sorry, but I'm too lazy to go upstairs to the cave to get the info.  ;'(

Take care,
Kathy

Library Card Catalog

Remember the card catalog?  Oh my, the hours I spent trying to clean it up so my students could find the information they needed.  Truly one of the best advances in technology was the online catalog which makes some of my fondest memories in the library using and filing in the awkward and most frustrating card catalog.

In memory of those old memories  --

The catalog paper is from October Afternoon's Public Library series.   Another memory -- I waited months, literally months, for that paper set to be released and have been hoarding it ever since.  I'm sure some of you will understand that.

Take care,
Kathy

Thanks

Love making coffee thank you cards cause I get to use my 'Paul'  Starbuck's gift card!  I've had this card for years - it has no balance, but I keep it for sentimental reasons.   aaahhh....

Anyhow, I made this card for the CAS-ual Fridays challenge (CFC150) which is to make a thank you card and to use twine.

Have a great weekend!

Thanks

Wow!  This card is really different.  I made a couple coffee cup thank you cards for teachers for a friend last week.  This little denim coffee cup was left over so I thought I would use it in the Summer Coffee Lovers Challenge.  But ...  what papers to go with it?  So, I went extreme while thinking of a male teacher or a teacher who thinks outside the box -- stripes and zig zags, of course!

Than I added a little twine for accent and a red 'thanks' at the top.

Take care,
Kathy

Happy 7th Birthday!

One of our nieces is turning seven this month so when I saw a similar card on Pinterest -- one of the best places for inspiration -- I cased it.  Seven little balloons and smiley faces.  Cute.  I hope she likes it.

I purchased the balloons online a couple years ago and the paper is from Hobby Lobby (?).  The smiley faces are from Technique Tuesday and the Happy Birthday sentiment from Papertrey Ink.

Have a great week!

Celebrate You Today

Celebrate You Today - what a great greeting for birthday, 4th of July or just to wish someone a wonderful day.

The base card is red with a dark blue mat.  I masked the white card piece and sponged red and blue stripes (rays?).  Then I die cut three circle scribbles (Papertrey Ink) and tacked them to the white piece.    I love these little scribbles - they add a lot of fun and dimension to a card and they can be made from scrap paper pieces!

Watercolor Happy Birthday

Watercolors are really interesting - the finished item is usually not what I intended at all.  I saw a card on Pinterest that I liked and tried to copy the watercolor design.  I don't think this result is even close, but I like it anyway.

Happy Birthday with flying butterflies on a sheet of watercolor paper with little pearls.

All Occasion Card

I've been wanting to use this stamp from Technique Tuesday for ages.  It is part of the Greenhouse Society Stamp program - I get a new stamp every month and love them.  I think this stamp is from last year - don't know why I haven't used it yet.

So I made two cards in different watercolors for different challenges.  I didn't add a sentiment and I'm not sure whether I should or not.

The pictures look a little washed out.  Sorry.  Rainy day and not very good light.

I'll be entering these cards in the following challenges:

Mother's Day

Since we have had rain for the last several days, I haven't been able to work in the yard - lots of weeds with more to come I'm sure!  So, I have been in my cave and loving it.  Here are a couple Mother's Day cards I made.

I found more little flowers in my stash and decided more Mother's Day cards were in order.

Have a great day,
Kathy

Happy Mother's Day

Can you believe Mother's Day is in a week.  Well, nine days, but soooo soon.  I was inspired to make this Mother's Day card by two challenges:  Time Out Challenge  and Fusion Card Challenge.

I love the colors required for the Fusion Challenge (teal and orange) and thought I would add the die-cut requirement of the Time Out Challenge.

A teal layer is adhered to the orange base card.  Then I die cut the oval shape on white card stock and stamped the sentiment at the top.  Next was running the white piece through the Big Shot to emboss with a basket weave design.

Then I used my Copic pens to ink the flowers and leaves on a Stampin Up stamp (sorry the stamp is upstairs - something Wildflower?) and stamped the background.  I used my water pen to add some touches here and there to give it a nice watercolor effect.  I layered the embossed piece over the watercolor flowers and attached it all to the top of the teal card stock and base.

Grandma... You're So Special

Grandma...  You're So Special.   Love this stamp and Grandmas deserve a special card.  While looking at my yellow daffodils and green grass, I decided to make a card with the pretty little paper flowers I picked up a while ago.

I sponged a white doily with yellow ink, place it on an embossed white piece and layered the flowers on the doily.  The center of each flower has a dab of clear Wink of Stella.  Then I added a few dabs in the doily spaces and the O at the top.  Nifty pen and so easy to use!

Then I added a piece of green card stock to the yellow base card and adhered the white embossed card to the green.  Finally, I added two little green paper flowers in the corners.

Oh, forgot.  I stamped the sentiment on the white card stock before I embossed the white piece with the dotted folder and Big Shot.  The inside of the card is stamped Happy Mother's Day.

Grandma... You're So Special will be posted to these challenges:

now and forever

Well, panic just set in for a minute.  I thought I missed the closing time for The Challenge #69 but then I saw the challenge closes at noon PST -- I'm EST.  yay!!

I made this card a couple days ago and life just got in the way and now I have time to post it.   It is a simple card with a pretty striped chevron paper on the teal base card.  I die cut the center heart and the smaller hearts, added a rafia bow in pink and white, and tacked on a few sequins.  The stamp is from Paper Smooches.

Ah, yes, this has been one of those weeks.  I totally forgot to add the second challenge for this card.   This one is the April 2016 Inspiration Challenge for Verve Stamps.  I love looking at their challenges and the entries - very talented people.  I need to get Verve stamps.
