Flower Pot Christmas Card

Just recently I discovered flower pot cards and I love them.  The cards are so cute, fun to decorate and so unique!

Though I complain when I hear Christmas carols on the radio and see Christmas decorations in the stores before Thanksgiving, I've made another Christmas card.  I wanted to participate in the Festive Friday Challenge and the Paper Smooches Anything Goes Challenge and this card seemed just right for both.

The picture for the Festive Friday Challenge  #44 is below.

And here is my flower pot card!

You can add personal notes or stamp sentiments on the tab that is inserted in the pot.

The flowers are digital flowers from Paper Smooches.  I printed the flowers on card stock and then cut out the flowers.  A few green, glistening leaves and fuzzy red and white flower centers finished the card.  Oops, forgot the ribbon which has little loops similar to the card stock and scalloped edge on the pot rim.

Paper Smooches SPARKS Challenge Anything Goes

I plan to make more flower pot cards using lots of different flowers, maybe some feathers and more sparkly decorations.  This is a great card for any time of the year.  I see lots more flower pot cards in the future.

Have a great weekend,
Kathy

Warm Wishes

Summer is flying by - I know where the time has gone, but yet....  I haven't posted anything in close to ten days so today I worked on two cards.  Here is the first.

Warm Wishes for two Christmas challenges.  When making this card, i recalled a card I had seen on Pinterest that had contrasting patterns and layers.  I don't usually use two different patterns ( plaid and stripes), but I see various combinations all the time and tried it.  I kind of like it.  The button was a last minute addition.  The tag and white bow just looked so plain that I thought a little pop of color would help and it goes with the folksy plaid.

I used Copic pens to color the ivy and berries.  These pens are great and I need to uses them more.

The first challenge is Festive Friday

Ok, so today is Friday.  Yay.   Have a great weekend,

Pastel Christmas

The current Festive Friday challenge was truly a challenge.  Look at this inspirational tree --

My Christmas trees are the usual red, green and white with a little blue and gold, but no pastels.

So, since I love hexagons and sparkles, I thought I would use hexagon glitter paper.  The yellow and pink yarn balls are not Christmassy, I know.  Maybe I should pull out some Christmas decorations to add to my pictures.

Two Christmas Card Challenges

A Christmas card for two challenges:  Festive Friday and Christmas Card Challenges

I love this red and gold ribbon.  When I saw the ribbons on the tree in the Festive Friday Challenge picture, I looked at my ribbons and selected this one immediately.  Some green leaves, gold string, embossed white card, designer paper and stamped sentiment add different textures and layers to the card.

Christmas Card Challenges #26 Anything Goes

I'm also posting this card to Christmas Card Challenges.  This is my first card in this challenge.  The theme was Anything Goes so....

Happy Memorial Day.

Festive Stripes

Candy canes covered with white frosting, red frosting, stripes, squiggles, dots and more make up the photo for the Festive Friday Challenge.

So, I found this stunning red and white striped paper that I placed on a white card and punched a bottom piece of the same paper -- sort of reminds me of the squiggles and dots on the candy canes in the picture.

Then I stamped three candy canes with Versa Mark and embossed with glittery powder, dried the images and fussy cut.  Oh, forgot, I added the pinky red lines on the candy canes using red ink and my water pen.  I love how the red color just wipes off the embossed areas.  I think I will use this technique more often.

Gauzy ribbon, button and twine atop the candy canes finish the card.

Interesting how the different backgrounds give the card a slightly different appearance.  The man in my house likes the black background better.

Teepee Christmas Card

Love folded cards.  This is a teepee or pyramid card for the Festive Friday Challenge.  There are all kinds of tutorials online and the card is really pretty easy to make.  The challenge as with most cards is the design, colors, papers and embellishments.

Isn't that little reindeer the cutest thing!

Glittering Grey

Before I start smoking my salmon and tossing together a salad to take to my SIL for Easter Dinner, I wanted to post my Festive Friday Challenge card.

Grey just seemed the way to go and some duplicates (think mirror).  I started with a grey base and added an embossed white card.  Then I die cut the other grey piece and embossed smaller white piece.  Just after Christmas I picked up the grey flowers at Michael's.  They looked so pretty I could not pass them up (plus the $1 price was right!).

I didn't add a sentiment as I thought the glittery flower should take center stage.  The final touch was little bits of green bling scattered around the centers of the embossed snowflakes.

Mittens

I have packed all the mittens and scarves away and won't bring them out for months!  But in the meantime, I'll make cards with mittens.

Here is a simple card made with brown mittens (big dots on brown), white corrugated cuffs, a little greenery and bow.

This card is being posted on the Festive Friday Challenge #28

I really wanted something glittery and see through, but.... the card I created just lacked pizzazz.   So I went with two brown mittens.

Have a great week,
Kathy

Best Wishes

The Festive Friday challenge inspiration this week was a snowflake -- crystalline and shiny.  I tried stamping snowflakes, cutting out snowflakes and ....   and my result was this card.  I like red, white and kraft together and big tags seem to be the 'big' thing right now.  Plus, a little bling in the corners!

And appropriately enough, snow is falling.  again....

Festive Friday #26 and retro sketches Challenges

*  see note below

Even though I love making Christmas cards, I do not need snow outside to get me energized!  I am sooooo glad the snow has melted and we are going to have 60 degree weather a couple days this week.  Yay!!!

The newest inspiration from Festive Friday is this picture.  Now this makes me hungry!  Does anyone have a recipe for this cookie?

   Festive Friday #26

When I saw my papers, I picked out a curly pattern which reminded me of this swirling frosting.

* Note:  I really should check my email more often.  I came across the latest retro sketches challenge and thought the above Christmas card might work, too.

So I am entering this card in two challenges:

Happy Monday and have a good week!

Festive Friday #25

The inspiration picture for this week's Festive Friday posed a problem for me.  Clean and simple cards with lots of white space are really quite difficult to create -- at least for me.

When I looked at the picture, I saw white, red, a touch of gold and ribbon.  Then I looked again and saw lots and lots of white with a tiny bit of the other colors and sighed.  My first card was a complete disaster (in the round filing cabinet without hesitation!).

    Festive Friday #25

So, here is my card.  The dimensionals behind the circles add a little depth and the sentiment font a little whimsy on an all white card.

Take care,
Kathy

Festive Friday #24

When I looked at the inspiration picture for the Festive Friday Challenge, I immediately saw gold and gold embossing.

I started out with a kraft card covered with gold embossed snowflakes.  Did not like it all.  But when put on a white card, the kraft card and embossing softened a little.  The gold bow sparkles like the ornaments in the pictures, too.  I think the bow should be a tad smaller.  The sentiment is stamped in red for a spot of color.

Ice and snow tonight.  Yuk!

Festive Friday

A couple weeks ago I cleaned up my 'cave' which had gotten rather messy and out of control.  I thought I would not need the Christmas items till maybe June or July so I neatly stacked everything in a closet.

Then I saw the new Festive Friday Challenge.  Oh my ...  well laid plans....

Last year I followed the Festive Friday Challenge, but did not participate.   Oh, I think I may have once.  But this year I really am going to try to be more active -- the challenge looks like a lot of fun and has great inspiring ideas, too!   So, here is the first entry.

The inspiring photo for this week's challenge is below.   I looked at this wonderful red barn and loved the scene.  (What a great Christmas card as is!)  Well, I started thinking colors and going through my Christmas paper and card stock.  When I saw the red and white polka dots, a light bulb lit up.   The big snow covered branch brought a white ribbon to mind.  The snow made me think of a white card and white flowers.  Finding the right stamp was the real challenge!  Nothing really fit except the little Verve banner which was the perfect size for my Happy Holidays stamp from Stampin Up.

    Festive Friday Challenge (FFC23)

So I played around with the papers and flowers, found the gold mesh and came up with this card.  Fun!

A note about the gold mesh.  This was part of the wrapping on a Christmas poinsettia I received as a gift, and I saved the mesh thinking I could recycle it at some point.

Have a great week!
